ANTIQUE VELVET CHAIR
Kermit the frog said, “it’s not easy being green” and I hope that you won’t discount this gorgeous chair because of it’s colour. The green velvet is very hard to photograph accurately but I can assure you it is a beautiful rich sage green and it’s in immaculate condition with subtle button detail on the back and an elegant finish everywhere else.
This Victorian era chair would likely have been part of a pair of ‘grandfather and grandmother’ chairs where the grandfather chair would have been slightly larger and more detailed. The grandmother chair, more delicate and feminine and either with lower arms or no arms at all. This petite chair, now missing her masculine partner, is so perfect in the sunny corner of a bedroom as a dressing chair, or in a nursery for quiet bedtime stories.
For those who are a bit nervous by the idea of green, this chair could easily be recovered in a crisp white linen for a more modern take on the classic shape, but as good quality, original antique velvet is hard to come by, I’d say rock with it for a while, see how it grows on you, add a cushion and then see how you feel. I bet you end up leaving it as it is.
